Abstract

Telemedicine is the application of information and communication technologies to provide remote healthcare services. Its relevance became evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, which required rapid changes in the way care is provided, avoiding the need for patient displacement and preserving continuity of care. This model has stood out for its ability to provide access to remote areas and reduce the burden of in-person services, benefiting both patients and healthcare professionals. However, the implementation of this practice raises significant challenges, such as the need for regulation, data security and adequate technological infrastructure. This study aimed to highlight the advantages, challenges and perspectives of telemedicine in current medical practice, based on a review of the approaches adopted during and after the pandemic.
