Proteção em todas as idades: Conscientização sobre vacinação de idosos
Abstract
The extension project aims to raise awareness among the elderly population about the importance of vaccination, strengthening the bond between the university and the community through educational and participatory actions. In the face of population aging and low vaccine adherence—caused by misinformation, fear of adverse reactions, and difficulties in accessing healthcare services—the initiative seeks to provide clear and accessible information, demystifying misconceptions and encouraging self-care. Developed by medical students from São Lucas College in Ji-Paraná under faculty supervision, the project follows the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Brazilian Society of Immunizations (SBIm), using participatory methodologies adapted to the needs of the elderly public. Activities carried out at the Centro de Convivência Viver Bem include interactive lectures, discussion groups, experiential workshops, and individual consultations, aiming to promote dialogue, empathy, and health education. Following ethical principles and based on scientific evidence, the project seeks to expand knowledge about the benefits of immunization, reduce myths, and increase confidence in health services. It is expected that the elderly will become multipliers of information within their communities, encouraging vaccination schedule updates and self-care practices. For students, the project fosters the development of communication, empathy, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills, linking theory to practice. Overall, the initiative contributes to strengthening public immunization policies, promoting health, and encouraging active aging, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, establishing itself as a transformative action that integrates teaching, research, and university extension.
