The Impact of Physiotherapy on Mastectomy Postoperative Preparation
Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the most common in Brazil and the world, and mastectomy, followed by reconstruction, often causes emotional trauma in women. Postoperative physiotherapy can help alleviate these effects, promoting rehabilitation and improving the patient's active life.
This study reviews the literature on the importance of physiotherapeutic treatment after mastectomy surgery, using data from SciELO and PubMed.
The results indicate that physical therapy is essential during radiotherapy, helping to recover shoulder range of motion and upper limb circumference.
Supervised protocols have shown effectiveness in recovering movement deficits up to two months after radiotherapy. Physiotherapy, therefore, is an important ally in the quality of life and recovery of patients, contributing to their physical and emotional well-being.
