Abstract

Globalization has created immense pressures against the cultural identity of traditional societies, especially indigenous peoples. The survival of indigenous cultures is critical for crop varieties that promote conventional wisdom and ensure ecological balance and public health. In Brazil, several problems have constantly hovered over the processes of defining land for the natives and preserving native cultures among the indigenous peoples. More current problems include the increase of the agricultural frontier and the threat of native languages. It is assumed that there must be elaboration of public policies that support the rights of the natives and their cultural preservation. The article attempts to capture what challenges globalization subjects indigenous peoples to survive in their ways of life and the strategies they employ for cultural resistance.
